AGI Council 2021 Nominations

Nominations for AGI Council 2021 will be open from 25 September – 30 October 2020.

Details of the nomination process and where to find out more information are available below.

Our members are the heart of the AGI, and the AGI Council comprises 15 members – all determined and enthusiastic about making a difference to our industry. Council represents the diversity of our members, provides strategic direction to our organisation, and enables our organisation to work as ambassadors for the value of GI and the geospatial industry in the UK.

Do you have the enthusiasm and skills needed to support the AGI? If so, please consider serving on our Council and respond to this call for nominations no matter which sector you’re working in, or your previous experience.

To ensure we maintain a balanced and functional Council, we are particularly looking for incoming Council members with a skill, expertise or interest in:

  • Training and Skills development
  • Communications and Marketing
  • Managing, supporting and motivating volunteer teams

A position on AGI Council is incredibly fulfilling. You’re taking part in key decisions that help to shape our community, to further our professions, and to provide leadership for geospatial peers in all kinds of interesting ways. It is also a role that has significant responsibility as you’re taking on the Directorship of the Association for Geographic Information.

If you’re unsure about applying because you’ve never been a Director before, don’t worry. We can reassure you – you’ll be part of a like-minded group who all support each other closely. Career-wise, it’s an excellent opportunity to take on some more management responsibility – or to help the community benefit from your previous expertise in a commercial environment – but to do so at your own pace. We work as a team. We can help you to understand what’s involved prior to your nomination to ensure that you are very clear on expectations of the role. The most important qualities for us are pragmatic commitment – there’s an element of time involved on a regular basis – and masses of enthusiasm!

For more insight into AGI Council roles and our plans for 2021, I encourage engagement with any member of the AGI Council who’ll be happy to talk these through with you in more detail.

Council comprises 15 places in all. There are a limited number of places vacant this year. The AGI now welcomes nominations from any paid-up AGI member interested in standing for AGI Council. The period of service is for 3 years starting from 1st January 2021.

If you don’t feel that a full council role is for you but are still keen to support and volunteer for the AGI, in either those areas highlighted above or any other aspect of the work of the Association then please contact the Hon Secretary Tom Timms to discuss how you might be able to support in an advisory or volunteer capacity.
